for complete list of AppStar 2012 winners

Creativity knows no boundaries. The Vodafone Appstar Challenge 2012 was a shining example of this age-old adage. The international challenge witnessed participation of over 3000 contestants from 6 countries across the Middle East and Africa, and over 500 app submissions, each unique in their own way.

Held at Vodacom World, Johannesburg, the Appstar Challenge hosted a never-before congregation of thoughtful developers, who put their minds in developing ideas that solved real-life problems and catered to the needs of the local markets. Gerald Kibugi (Kenya) claimed the first prize for his ‘Tough Jungle’ app, an action adventure game that introduces Kenya’s culture, history and the destination in an engaging and interactive manner.

Gilbert Rono (Kenya) won the second prize for designing the ‘Eureka’ app, an innovative educational app that simplifies problem solving such as Calculus and Algebra. The third prize went to Rudolph Joubert from South Africa who designed the Ster-Kinekor app, that facilitates movie fans to book movies and choose seats from their mobile device.

The best part was, every participant at the event emerged as a hero. And even more importantly, all the apps will be launched in the App Stores and will be made accessible to millions of customers from across the world.
